Job Posting: Forensic Injury Biomechanics – Biomechanical Engineer

Position Description:

Forensic injury biomechanics analyses to assess the mechanism of injuries and evaluate causal link between specific injuries and real-world incidents primarily in motor vehicle accidents as well as some industrial/occupational and sport/recreation accidents. Team approach working with other injury biomechanics staff from the beginning to the end of a case including defining the forensic question, working the case, presenting technical results to the client, and preparing for expert testimony. Case work-up includes review of documents (police reports, photographs, medical records, witness statements and deposition testimony), inspect and document evidence (subject and exemplar vehicles, accident sites, safety equipment, etc.), research and apply scientific literature regarding specific injury mechanisms, gather and apply injury field data, integrate vehicle collision dynamics and occupant dynamics, analyze injury mechanisms, reconstruct actual and alternative scenarios, prepare visual presentations, and write technical reports regarding injury biomechanics findings and conclusions.

This forensic biomechanics position is best suited for a person with background, experience, and interest in automobile impact injury biomechanics, however, persons with background and experience in other applications of injury biomechanics will be considered.

Degree Requirements and Qualifications:

• B.S. and M.S. or Ph.D. in Biomechanical/Biomedical Engineering, Biomechanics/Kinesiology, or a closely related science.

• Background and/or experience preferred in automobile impact injury biomechanics such as vehicle collision dynamics, occupant kinematics, occupant injury biomechanics, and restraint system use and effectiveness.

• Successful persons in this career possess strong analytical and problemsolving skills; the ability to work as part of a team and independently; are self-motivated and self-disciplined; are organized; attentive to details; have outstanding oral and written communication skills; able to interact effectively with technical and non-technical people; have the desire to continue to learn; and have the ability to acquire, integrate, and apply knowledge.
