Slip/Trip and Fall Research and Slip Resistance Testing

In the past, company researchers have collaborated with Chris Powers, Ph.D. at the University of Southern California (USC) Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Research Laboratory and Jim Flynn, P.E. of J2 Engineering, Inc. in Fresno, California to study slip and fall dynamics. Shown here is a portable tribometer English XST on a force plate to evaluate slip resistance.

Results were presented to the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) F-13 Committee on Safety and Traction for Footwear and were published in the Journal of Testing and Evaluation (November 1999, Repeatability and Bias of Two Walkway Safety Tribometers).
