VSI and its prior entity (Biomechanics Research & Consulting, Inc.) have conducted research projects on a variety of topics including:

Impact Biomechanics - Automobile
cervical spine kinematics, muscle dynamics, and injury mechanics in low-speed rear-end impacts (full-scale vehicle tests with live human volunteers)
Forensic determination of seat belt use evidence (sled tests with ATDs; Anthropometric Test Devices)
Head restraint impact dynamics and cervical disc injury mechanics
Knee impact dynamics into instrument panels and associated injury mechanics (cadaveric lower extremity specimens)
Concatenated vehicle impacts (rear-end followed by frontal) and occupant rebound dynamics (full-scale vehicle tests with ATDs)

Impact Biomechanics - Occupational/Industrial
Pneumatic nailer dynamics and patellar fracture patterns (cadaveric lower extremity specimens)
Industrial floor sweeper seated operator lumbar spine injury mechanics

Impact Biomechanics - Sport/Recreation
Hockey puck velocity and facial impact injury tolerance
Ice resurface machine passenger/rider safety feasibility
Bicycle shoe-pedal interface dynamics and overuse knee injury mechanics
Bicycle seat pressure patterns and potential injury assessment
Ski lift tower pole padding performance and injury mitigation

Premise
Slip and fall dynamics and tribometer measurement techniques, validation, and repeatability
