Senior Biomechanist
Dr. Dainty has been a forensic consultant for the past nine years working in the area of injury biomechanics and dynamic human analysis. Although he has consulted in a number of areas including automobile impacts, slip, trip and falls, falls from heights, objects striking individuals, boating accidents, motorcycle accidents, etc., his recent focus has been in the area of slip and falls and injuries resulting from these incidents. Prior to becoming a forensic consultant, Dr. Dainty had a career in academics as a professor and administrator. Since 1975, when he completed his doctoral program at Penn State, he has held appointments at a number of Universities in both Canada and the United States.
Dr. Dainty has taught biomechanics and anatomy to undergraduate and graduate students at a number of institutes of higher learning. His first research endeavors were related to sports in terms of injury prevention and performance enhancement. In the early 1980's he began work with a colleague at the University of Ottawa investigating chest deflection characteristics of anthropomorphic test dummies (ATD's) as they relate to live human chest characteristics. To continue this work, Dr. Dainty left the University of Ottawa to establish an impact lab at the University of California, San Diego where he performed full scale sled impacts with post mortem human surrogates and ATD's. After two years he was recruited to a Dean's position at a private college in Toronto, but maintained University appointments at the University of Toronto and the University of Waterloo, continuing to work on biomechanical issues. In 2000, Dr. Dainty returned to California to work as a forensic scientist and has been here since that time.
